Steven Silverman, a solid and successful commercial real estate broker, has more than 31,000 followers on LinkedIn, and he posts almost every single day on the platform.

But recently, he posted something that I believe most commercial real estate brokers need to hear, because so many brokers seem to be scratching their heads, and wondering how much time they should be spending on social media, and wondering what exactly they should be posting on social media, to make more money in their brokerage business.

So with this being said, I got Steven’s OK to post the following message from him:

I don’t know how to be more clear.

If I relied strictly on social media to be a successful broker, I’d fail.

I post almost every single day. I’ve built a strong presence and consistent brand.

And yet I’ve only closed a handful of deals from it.

That’s the reality.

For every young broker who thinks the answer is:

• Attending every event
• Posting nonstop
• Building a “brand” first

It’s not.

That’s all supplemental.

The core of this business hasn’t changed:

• Pick up the phone
• Call owners
• Follow up
• Stay consistent

That’s where deals come from.

But it’s not glamorous, and that’s okay.

• It’s not attending every event
• It’s not posting pictures
• It’s not networking with other brokers

At the end of the day, that’s not what drives results.

Making calls does.

So there you have it, from a solid CRE broker who has more than 31,000 followers on LinkedIn, telling everyone that success in CRE brokerage still depends on doing the basic, old-school fundamentals, while telling us that social media is still only a minor component towards you developing even more new business as a CRE broker.

So pick up the phone, call your owners, follow-up with them, and stay consistent with this, and just get out there and make it happen!
