The Illusion That Many Commercial Brokers Live Under
Let’s say you’re working in a commercial real estate brokerage office, and there’s another broker working there who’s making a lot more money than you. So you observe the other broker and conclude, “He’s working the same hours as I am, and he’s on the phone during the day, and going out on appointments just like me, so clearly I must be doing the exact same things that he’s doing, and therefore I’ll soon begin making a lot more money.”
This exact same line of thinking may not necessarily be verbalized by the broker, but in the end, the conclusion oftentimes remains the same.
With this in mind, I constantly see brokers who say they want to make a lot more money, but they believe that doing so has nothing whatsoever to do with changing their routine. Their attitude seems to be, “The routine is fine, but I just need to keep working it in the months and years ahead, and then the big money will finally fall onto my lap.”

But this is exactly where many brokers are still playing the game today.
