The November election here in the U.S. is just weeks away now, and with so many people feeling stressed out about the potential results from the election, here are my thoughts around helping us to minimize the stress.
First of all, recognize that you can’t influence the outcome of the election yourself, outside of you placing your own vote. In addition, if you live in a state where the probability is very high that your state’s electoral votes will already be going to one specific candidate from one of the two major political parties, there’s nothing you can do to change this either.
So in many ways, the election will be determined by what has been called the “swing states”, the states whose electoral votes could go to either candidate, depending on the final results obtained from the vote counting.
So with this being said, do you really want to continue feeling so much stress and anxiety over the potential outcome of the election, in the weeks between now and early November, as so many people are doing right now?
Does it really make sense to subject yourself to feeling a ton of anxiety between now and then, for a result that you cannot influence?
How about this, then? Are there potential moves you can be making to protect yourself, if one particular candidate wins the election over the other one? If so, would it make sense to identify what those moves are, and then make them?
Then what about after the election? Are there moves that you should prepare for and anticipate making, if one particular candidate wins the election, so that you are then prepared to make those moves right after everyone has learned who has won the election?
Then in either situation, identify what those moves are, and then make them.
But if there are no moves that you believe you should be making, then sit tight, and don’t let yourself get stressed out!
You have choices around what you can do with your time between now and the election, and if feeling anxious is something that you want to experience, then tune into all of the news services that will be turning up the heat on all of the anxiety between now and November 5th. But if you want to enjoy yourself more, spend time doing the things that bring enjoyment into your life instead. Read a good book, spend time with your family, watch enjoyable movies, meditate, engage more in your religious or spiritual practice if you have one, or go to the gym, take walks, exercise, or workout more often.
You’ve made it this far in your life, and you’ve probably overcome some difficulties along the way. And some of those difficulties, I would imagine, may have really challenged you at the time, but you came through them, and now here you are today.
So don’t let yourself get wrapped-up in all the anxiety, unless you are choosing to do this for enjoyment.
Engage yourself in doing the things that bring you happiness instead, and while everyone else is freaking out, you can be living in a greater sense of peace.
Whoever wins this election, you will find the way to make it work for you. You will assess the situation, you will gather more information as you continue moving forward, and you will then take action with that information, charting your destiny, and moving towards accomplishing the life and business goals, that are so important to you.
